Weatherize your home
Air leaks and water leaks come in through the same gaps. Sealing them lowers your energy bill, keeps rain out and makes the house quieter.
What to look for
Warning signs
- Drafts around doors and windows
- Daylight under the front door
- Water stains under windows after rain
- High summer or winter energy bills
- Rooms that never get comfortable
Do it yourself
- Weatherstrip doors and add door sweeps.
- Caulk windows, trim and every pipe or wire that goes through the wall.
- Foam-seal gaps bigger than 1/4 in.
- Add foam gaskets behind outlet covers on outside walls.
- Top up attic insulation and seal the attic hatch.
